Pro Bono Students Canada is proud to be the Community Sponsor, for the third year in a row, of the Lexpert Zenith Awards. This year, the Awards celebrated “Leadership Through Change”, honouring lawyers who have been change-agents for forty or more years. The champions of change included a stunningly accomplished collection of Supreme Court Justices and leading members to the bar and bench from almost every province in Canada.

Award recipients were honoured at a dinner held on October 11, 2012 at the Ritz-Carlton in Toronto.  The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, former Governor General of Canada, delivered the keynote remarks while PBSC National Director Nikki Gershbain, a member of the advisory board, gave a speech on the changing nature of law student pro bono in the profession.

During her remarks, Gershbain commented on the relevance of ‘leadership through change’ to PBSC’s mandate, “because our goal is to create a generation of lawyers that sees public service as integral to their professional obligations. What’s so awe-inspiring about this event, then, is the way in which tonight’s recipients serve as role models for the next generation of lawyers.”  PBSC worked with Lexpert to provide ten complimentary tickets for law students to attend the gala affair.
