The 2010 Canadian Pro Bono Awards selected PBSC’s Family Law Project as the winner of its National Pro Bono Program Award. The awards are presented as part of the 3rd National Pro Bono Conference, and honour individuals, groups or organizations for outstanding pro bono contributions. PBSC is grateful to Mr. Justice Harvey Brownstone of the Ontario Court of Justice for nominating us for this award.

The National Pro Bono Program Award is one of only three awards presented every other year, and recognizes a pro bono program that increases access to legal services for disadvantaged individuals in Canada. In selecting PBSC as this year’s recipient, the awards committee considered the following criteria for nominated programs: addressing a gap in the existing services or the unmet legal needs of a community; using innovative strategies to increase access to justice; enhancing private bar participation in pro bono activities; promoting collaboration between legal and community service providers.

The 2010 Canadian Pro Bono Awards will be presented on September 16, 2010, as part of the 3rd National Pro Bono Conference (September 15-17) at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary. The Conference Banquet and Awards Ceremony also features keynote speaker Mr. Stephen Lewis of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
